About the Artist:
Heidi Wetzel came here from Germany as a teenager and now lives and weaves just outside of St. Michaels, MD. She acquired the art of basket weaving from a nearby master weaver and has since studied with masters throughout the U.S. and from Japan and Russia. Her work reflects the beauty she sees in the natural surroundings here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She uses indigenous and unique materials, and her creations have evolved into contemporary and free-form sculptures... often woven into unusual shapes. She has taken her basket weaving another step, creating wall hangings and purely decorative, uniquely-shaped objects.
Her creations can now be found at Gallery 26, Easton's newest art gallery, located at 26 West Dover Street in Easton, Maryland. Gallery 26 is open Monday to Saturday from 11AM to 6PM and Sunday by appointment or by chance.
